The specialists

The specialists have a 5-year university degree (engineering, professional master's, research master's) and whose last year of training is mainly dedicated to micro and nanoelectronics.

For five years, the flow of specialists has been stable and is on average 960 graduates.

The non-specialists

The students in this category essentially have a general training in electronics (but certain students have training in physics or in information technology, or more general training). They carry out practical microelectronic works on the common means of the CNFM without taking an option of a final year of micro and nanoelectronic specialisation.

These students mainly have a 3-year or 4-year degree (degree, masters, engineering school, IUP (Institut Universitaire Professionalisé - Professional University Institute). Other students have a five-year university degree (engineer, Research master's, Professional master's) in a field non-specialising in microelectronics.

The annual flow of non-specialist is approximately 2,800 students.

Awareness Course Attendees

The aim of the awareness course is to present students, through a practical approach, generally on a short-term basis, with the techniques of micro and nanoelectronics so that they may have an insight into the possibilities that they offer.

These students are in very varied fields, often further away from microelectronics (chemistry, materials, networks, etc.) than those of the “non-specialists”. They are at different levels of studies (two year university degree to five year university degree). Some of them end up during their later studies in “non-specialist microelectronics” fields perhaps even “specialist in micro and nanoelectronics”.

The annual flow of awareness course attendees exceeds 4,000 students. It is slowly increasing.

Each year, the CNFM draws up a precise report of use of its means.
70 universities and engineering colleges use the means of the CNFM clusters for the specialization or initiation of 8,000 different students each year. For DUT (University Technology Diploma), degree and master’s level, use of the shared means represents 450,000 class hours.

The users under the initial training fall into three categories: specialists, non-specialists and the awareness course attendees.
